Dr Robert C. Dewel is a retired dentist turned free lance writer of history.
His beat is Baraboo and
Sauk County , Wisconsin.
The daily Baraboo News-Republic has published his articles, some 235 to date and counting, since 1997.

Dr. Bob Dewel Receives 2005 Canfield Award

On April 9, Dr. Bob Dewel, right, received the 2005 William H. Canfield History Award from Paul Wolter, President of Sauk County Historical Society. The Society’s annual award is given to local historians who work in the same spirit as Sauk County’s first historian, William H. Canfield, who settled on Skillet Creek in 1842. Canfield began writing historical sketches of the county as early as 1861 and founded the Old Settlers Association in 1872. Dewel was recognized for his historical writings which include over 270 newspaper articles which have been compiled in seven volumes. April 9th marked the 186 birthday of Canfield who was born in New York and came to Sauk County when he was 23. He died in 1913 at the age of 94.
